Fractional Flow Reserve indicates how much coronary blockages impair blood flow to heart muscle and determines what extent blood flow to the heart muscle can be increased by coronary intervention. In patients who are to receive stents to treat their multivessel coronary artery disease, measuring their FFR prior to stenting can help lower the risk of heart attack and death. 

Fractional Flow Reserveis performed during coronary catheterization and uses a tiny sensor on the tip of the catheter to measure pressure, temperature and flow of blood.
